Four Seasons, One Beautiful Planet

“Life goes on forever like the gnawing of a mouse.”
-Edna St. Vincent Millay

And so do the seasons. It’s Earth Day, and no matter where you are, we all share a spot on this beautiful planet.

I thought I’d share a photograph from each season so far from this year and last.

I bet more people love the gift of spring now more than ever.

This is from last week. I think the earth was giving her a big hug.

Going backwards, we just wrapped up winter. I took this picture right after it snowed. Something about it reminds me Lucy stepping into the snow after stepping out of the wardrobe.

Just beyond, my sheltering-in-place abode

Who can forget fall? Well, it does seem like five years ago. It’s my favorite season most of the time. Sometimes, it’s spring, but fall has that way of nurturing my soul.

Fall in the mountains. That’s my brave daughter scaling one. Yellow leaves and gray sweatshirts.

Last, but never least: summer. Summer means bare feet and warm breezes at 10 pm. Summer is romantic. It’s slower, and it gives us grace. We follow its pace, guided by beautiful, sunny days, afternoon showers and terrific naps. Summer heals and loves us well.

It means tea on the balcony in the morning. Fresh herbs in your omelets.

There you have it. Four seasons of love and appreciation. We are blessed. Let’s love on this beautiful planet that loves on us so well.

Stay safe and look out for each other.

“Ashes of Life” by Edna St. Vincent Millay

Love has gone and left me and the days are all alike;
Eat I must, and sleep I will, – and would that night were here!
But ah! – to lie awake and hear the slow hours strike!
Would that it were day again! – with twilight near!

Love has gone and left me and I don’t know what to do;
This or that or what you will is all the same to me;
But all the things that I begin I leave before I’m through, –
There’s little use in anything as far as I can see.

Love has gone and left me, – and the neighbors knock and borrow,
And life goes on forever like the gnawing of a mouse, –
And to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow
There’s the little street and this little house.

  1. I love your pictures! I do love living in North Carolina and experiencing the 4 seasons. This has been an awesome Spring. The air is cleaner and you can see the stars better at night. Small blessings during this crazy time.

      Thanks! That’s a big reason why I love North Carolina, too! We may get milder winters, but we get them! I have been looking at the night skies, too. Just goes to show how hard we are on this planet.
