Inspiration – Hawaii

Inspiration - Hawaii

Tej and Tejal Vishalpura have been married for twenty years and have two kids. Now that the kids are older, they want a space that reflects the deep connection to the outside -similar to the hotels they stayed while on their honeymoon in Hawaii.  With Hawaii and a homeowner supplied painting as inspiration, I set out to create a home that will have them thinking that they should offer lei’s upon entry.

Planning

The Design

This family wanted to change their traditional style to a more comfortable but contemporary, earthy space where they could offer plenty of room for guests to sit and relax.  The eating area off the kitchen was rarely used so we changed its function into a casual sitting area since it’s open to the living room.  We brought in a lot of texture reclaimed wood and coffered ceilings, updated lighting, added bold paint colors, art and modern, but cozy seating for plenty of visitors.
